Boston Marathon bombing:

Two apparent explosive devices were detonated near the crowded finish line of the Boston Marathon. The explosions took place at the 4:09 mark of the race, and approximately ten seconds apart. There are at least three dead, including an 8 year old child. At least 140 people were injured, according to latest reports, seventeen of them critically.
Aside from that, very little is known, and we are in the portion of time immediately after a major event in which misinformation travels far more freely than confirmed facts. As such, caution is required.
  • According to a news conference held by Gov. Deval Patrick and law enforcement officials this evening, the National Guard has secured the scene for "several blocks" around the site. That perimeter may change during the night. The FBI has taken the lead in the investigation; FBI Special Agent In Charge Richard DesLauriers characterizes the case as a "potential terrorism investigation."
  • Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis emphasized, during this evening's press conference that despite media speculation to the contrary "there is no suspect at Brigham and Women's Hospital". (This appears to refer to reports from several outlets that an injured Saudi Arabian national was tackled and held by a bystander for unspecified "suspicious" behavior.) Davis also stated that no further explosive devices have been found.
  • A fire this afternoon at Boston's John F. Kennedy Library is thought to be unrelated.
  • President Obama gave a statement on the incident this evening, saying "All Americans stand with the people of Boston":
"We still do not know who did this or why, and people shouldn't jump to conclusions without the facts ... we will find out who did this, and why they did this. Any responsible individuals and groups will feel the full weight of justice."

lol...It Cries.
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: What strikes me is part of the reason for the psychological shock is that if you think about it, Bret, this is the first successful bombing -- terror explosion since 9/11. We've had some that were attempted, like the one in Times Square that never succeeded.

We've had by my count, about ten terrorist attacks in the U.S. since 9/11, all of them have been shootings with one exception, which is a man who drove a car into a crowd at University of North Carolina. But this is the first explosion. I think that's what gives this the sort of psychological resonance. People running in the street of a big city, the smoke. Of course, it's nowhere near the scale of 9/11, but it's the first time.
And I think that is sort of a historical echo that we're feeling and it reminds us of how vulnerable we felt at the beginning of this whole decade of terror. And that even though, we thought that we had largely escaped, and we have largely escaped, it is still out there.
Negro Cop: " I didnt do nothing"
"This will be a worldwide investigation," Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI's Boston Field Office Richard DesLauriers said at a conference, adding that investigators will go "wherever the leads take us."
"We will go to the ends of the Earth to identify the suspects responsible for this despicable crime," he added.
DesLauriers urged anyone who may have seen someone carrying a heavy black bag near the scene of the explosion to come forward.
